The Deli - Whitehorse
About This Spot
Stepping into The Deli on Hanson Street feels like slipping into a well-worn rhythm of daily life in Whitehorse—a place where the bustle of the lunch rush hums with quiet purpose. It’s a cozy neighborhood hub that moves at a steady, welcoming pace, inviting both regulars and newcomers to linger just long enough over a thoughtfully crafted sandwich or a warm, savory bite before heading back into the Yukon day.
The atmosphere is warm and familiar, infused with the rich aromas of smoked meats and freshly baked goods that hint at the care behind each order. Despite its modest size, The Deli opens up through the genuine smiles and easy conversations exchanged behind the counter, creating a sense of connection that lingers even after the last crumb is gone. During busy hours, the flow of people — whether stopping in for a quick takeout or squeezing in a moment at the limited seating — never feels rushed but rather part of a shared routine.
What makes The Deli stand out is how it balances hearty tradition with a local spirit. Each sandwich feels like a small celebration of Yukon-made flavors—from smoky, spicy elk sausages to richly layered meats that satisfy far beyond just hunger. This is a lunch spot where you can feel the hands that prepared your food, and the thoughtful attention to quality resonates in every bite.
Whether you’re drawn in by the inviting sandwich counter or curious to try one of the hot plates crowding the menu, The Deli invites a genuine moment of pause and pleasure during an otherwise busy day. It’s less about speed and more about the comforting certainty of a favorite meal made just right, by people who understand what a good deli truly means to a community.

The sandwiches are so good here and will keep you full for a while. I always come here at least once every time I'm in Whitehorse for work. I haven't gotten their hot food items but they look delicious! The place is booming with people over lunch hour but don't worry, the line goes quickly.

This is the place you want for a sandwich. They layer the meat/cheese slices to get some thick sandwiches. Only issue would by the lack of seating due to COVID. Just ask for it to go.

Amazing food, super friendly staff. Working in town and the sadest days are the weekend when I can't get lunch at the Deli. Specials are always amazing. Sandwich counter is always delicious, but quality takes time so it's a bit slow even with the whole team working together. Cannot recommend enough!

What a great “old school” deli lunch spot! Fantastic sandwiches and hot foot too. I had the workman’s lunch and the bison and elk sausages were a real treat.

Great little neighbourhood deli, lots of options both hot and cold with numerous different ways to get your sandwich made fresh to order. Lots of different side salads as well as plenty of hot options, definitely going to be my new go-to lunch spot whenever I have time. Also many baked desserts and other things to enjoy for dessert.

This is definitely the best place in Whitehorse for a sandwich, a good variety of meat, the soups are very good. The salads are “ok” though. I didn’t really enjoy the coleslaw or pasta salad’s, the beet and onion was good. You definitely want to come here for a good sandwich, remember you need to come before 3pm otherwise sandwich bar is closed.

I love any place that will make you a customized sandwich. All the salads at the front display case look good but I haven't tried them yet. Key word: yet. Casual atmosphere with a half dozen or so tables. You can also do some light grocery shopping for condiments and sauces. Service is polite and friendly.
